The truth is, when you are healthy- physically, emotionally, and spiritually- everything in your life works more efficiently. Your productivity levels soar and your relationships flourish. Your time management skills will also be better because you have more energy which means you can delegate tasks more efficiently. And best of all, when you are feeling good mentally and physically, it will show in everything that you do!
Next week we’re launching the second Prosperous Mom Summit, and I had the sincere pleasure of interviewing 21 health and wellness experts. I got to pick their brains about all things entrepreneurship and health, and there were some amazing advice that applies to all of us in our daily lives and every aspect of our businesses.
I want to share some of my favorite nuggets with you today, as a sneak peek into next week’s summit! Have you registered yet? Grab your spot over at theprosperousmom.com!
Sleep
The first one I’ll talk about is something that affects us all, and it happens to be my favorite topic: sleep. Getting enough sleep is important for everyone, but it’s a huge game changer for entrepreneurs. When you don’t get enough sleep, your performance suffers. The more sleep deprived you are the worse your cognitive function becomes and the less control you have over your behavior.
When we’re exhausted our bodies release cortisol, which is the stress hormone that makes us crave fat and sugar. Cortisol basically turns us into a total hormonal mess!
Sleep is also one of biggest factors in how your body reacts to insulin (see here for more info on low carb diets). When you’re sleeping the ideal eight hours per night your body can normalize blood sugar levels and insulin. This is important for the way you feel, but also because uncontrolled blood sugar can lead to diabetes which has a huge impact on what we’re going to talk about next…
Gut Health
Did you know that the health of your gut will not only affect your physical health, but also how well you handle stress and have clarity of thought?
Gut health is one of the most important aspects for overall wellbeing, and research shows that poor gut flora can lead to obesity , diabetes, arthritis, cancer… even depression!
There’s a lot that you can do to improve your gut health (such as eating prebiotics and taking probiotics), but it all starts with what we put on our fork.
What we eat has a huge impact on how quickly we age, and stress is one of the biggest factors that contribute to aging. Did you know that lack of sleep also plays a part in how your skin ages? It’s true!
There are a lot of factors that make up the way we look, but it’s all proportional. If you’re not sleeping eight hours per night and eating well (prebiotics + probiotics) then your skin will reflect that.
Stress
Stress is another huge factor in our health, and when we’re stressed out it shows.
Did you know that stress causes your skin to release cortisol? This makes you more prone to acne and wrinkles (and just overall looking older than you really are). Stress also causes your body to produce excess oil… which can lead to breakouts.
When we’re stressed our body releases chemicals called cytokines that actually slow down your metabolism and affect how we burn fat .
Our brain is the most powerful self-healing organ in our body, but when we’re feeling overwhelmed it can’t function like it should. Lack of sleep also makes us crave sugar which in turn releases insulin and makes us feel foggy and even more stressed.
Emotional Health
Our emotional health plays a huge role in how we approach our work, relationships, and self-care. When you’re feeling down, overwhelmed, or just dead inside it becomes hard to get things done. You can’t make big decisions clearly, and you can’t build a business when you don’t have anything left to give.
How we feel emotionally has a huge impact on our physical health . One of the biggest things that contributes to depression is inflammation… which also contributes to acne!
Our emotions impact what’s going on in our gut too, because stress affects inflammation in our bodies. This is why you can’t separate your physical, emotional, and spiritual health – they’re all interconnected!
Spiritual Health
Finally, we get to the biggest factor when it comes to feeling your best everyday: our spiritual health.
For me this means daily meditation but for other people it might be prayer or simply being in nature. Whatever the case, the root of how we feel spiritually is all about self-love and acceptance.
How you think about yourself has a big impact on what’s happening inside your body. If you don’t love yourself then it will be hard to really take care of yourself physically, because you won’t know how to treat yourself right emotionally or with the best nutritional plan.
When you love yourself then you’re naturally going to want to take care of your body! You’ll want to sleep well, eat clean, and do things that make you feel good because you understand the importance of self-care.
If you can’t love yourself, then no one will be able to protect you from the outside world. In order to feel truly happy you must be able to protect yourself by loving and accepting who you are.
When we love ourselves (and others) then nothing can stop us. We have so much strength inside of us that we don’t even realize, but when we know our worth it becomes impossible for anything or anyone to bring us down.
