We are all unique. We have different backgrounds, beliefs, and opinions on the world around us. And if we don’t get to share our stories with each other, then how will anyone know who we really are?
I was once told that when you speak in public it is not just about your personal story but also a story for those listening as well because their life will be impacted by what you say.
That’s why I always try to take advantage of any opportunity I can find to speak up and be heard even if it means saying no to something else in order to do so because there may never be another chance like this one again.
We are in the midst of my latest The Prosperous Mom summit, and it’s been so amazing to hear all of the feedback! (By the way, you can still catch the rest of the 21 days by registering at theprosperousmom.com).
Here are my favorite lessons I’ve learned from saying yes to speaking opportunities:
Your message matters
Regardless of how small or large it might be, never underestimate the impact that you can have on someone else.
We may not know what opportunities are out there waiting for us, but as long as we follow our dreams and speak up about our passions to those around us, then we will always have a chance to have a positive impact on someone else’s life.
You may be surprised by the impact you have on your audience
I never imagined that my stories and messages would inspire so many people to take control of their lives and go after their dreams.
I remember watching my first online presentation with someone I barely knew, wondering if they would even engage or have any interest in what I had to say. But as soon as the presentation was over, they told me how much my message meant to them and that really inspired me to keep going!
The more you share, the better it will get
We never stop learning and growing in this thing called Life! Each time that we speak up about what we know or believe, our message becomes stronger and clearer which makes it easier for others to follow along.
I want you to think about a time that someone else has shared with you what they believed or knew about something. If this person was passionate and knowledgeable about the topic, then it wasn’t hard for you to follow along. It’s just like when your child wants to show you something new or share an idea with you. The more they talk about it, the more confident they become which makes it easier for us to understand what they are trying to say.
It starts with one person
Speak up! Whether you are just starting out in your speaking career or have been doing it for years, know that there is always room for improvement. We might not know the impact that we have on others if they don’t take the time to tell us. But what matters most is knowing how much it meant to you to take advantage of the opportunity.
Let’s say no to staying quiet and burying all of those passions deep inside. Let’s say yes to speaking up, inspiring others with our stories, and living life on purpose!
You never know who is listening
I love that quote because you never know if your message will be heard by someone’s father, mother, friend, or future spouse who just so happens to have a different opinion than you do. It’s exciting to think about how someone else might be impacted by your message at the exact moment they need it.
You don’t even have to be in front of a large audience for this to happen either. Countless times, I’ve received messages from people who have attended one of my seminars or heard me speak at a conference. They tell me how much it meant to hear that specific message right when they needed it most.
Be confident in yourself and your message so that others will be inspired to do the same.
Step out of your comfort zone
It’s so easy to get caught up in the rat race that we forget all about our full potential. When you are invited to speak at an event or share your message with someone who is interested, don’t let fear hold you back!
If there is something that you are passionate about, then tell the world. Even if the only people listening are your friends and family, at least you had the courage to speak up about it!
The next time an opportunity comes along, don’t get stuck thinking about all of the reasons why you should say no or get caught up in what other’s might think about you speaking up. Be brave and fearless and take the opportunity to share your knowledge, expertise, or experiences with others.
It’s time to live a life that is truly worth living by speaking up about what you believe in and going after those passions that matter most!
Final Thoughts
Please don’t be afraid to say yes when you find yourself being invited to share what you know with someone else. As long as you have a message to share, then speaking opportunities will always be out there waiting for you.
But most importantly, keep sharing your message with the world because the more you do, the stronger it will get which means that one day your story might just motivate or inspire someone else to live their best life too!
